Half-Staff Flags

The flags are half-staff most days now
My neighbors keep saying they’ll fix things somehow
and I’m on my porch thinking
“What can I do?”
I’ll just be kind to you
since you’re here.

I Spun Back Around

Suddenly I realized
The day turned to night,
Suddenly I realized
You’re no longer bright.

And I wonder how long it’s been
Since the Sun left the sky,
And I wonder how soon until
Your light meets my eyes.

Then You whisper- loudly
“I’m still where I am.
You’re the one spinning,
So spin around again”

So with quiet hesitation
I opened my eyes
I spun around on my axis
I spun back around on my axis.

A Couple Days In Nature

This computer screen is looking pretty bleak
And my mind is feeling fuzzy
and I can’t quite remember that poem I wrote
When I woke up this morning.

But after two years of doing the same
There’s one thing that I’m certain:

-I’m pretty damn resilient
&
It only takes a couple days in nature
To make me feel myself again.

Angry parents make angry children
Or so they say
but I swear that little boy
always had the cutest grin on his face

“It was infectious” The nurses said
“But in the good kind of way.”

Manly

I’m not the strongest man-
-I’m rather short,
And bills consume most of my money.

But when I’m holding you
And my fingers stumble across
That little scar on your back that only I know of,

There’s not another man on the planet
That could outdo me.
There’s not another man on the planet.
